Drop-stitch is also sold by overseas storefronts that ship here — so the fourth option isn’t a different pool, it’s a different way to buy one. Steel-frame column
Steel-frame prices come from EXTG.com.au, a direct-to-consumer retailer that sells the same Bestway product lines you’ll find at Bunnings and similar hardware and garden retailers — checked directly on 24 July 2026. We couldn’t independently re-verify Bunnings’ own listed prices (their site blocks automated access), so we haven’t used their specific figures as a source — only as a directional cross-check, and they land in the same range.
Hippool column
Our price range covers all six Hippool Circle sizes we currently sell — three diameters (3 m, 4 m, 5 m), each in two depths (120 cm and 150 cm). Steel-frame pools are sold in a wide range of sizes too, and we haven’t matched size-for-size against every Hippool variant — treat both ranges as category ranges, not a size-by-size comparison.
The import column
You’ll notice we don’t put a price on importing one yourself. That’s deliberate. There’s no Australian, South African or Canadian retail price for these pools, and what you’d actually pay depends on the seller’s own currency, the shipping lane, and whatever duty or tax is charged when it lands. Any single figure we printed would be a guess dressed up as a fact — so we’ve told you what the cost is made of instead.
ZA note
We couldn’t find a confirmed South African price for entry-level inflatable toy pools from the retailers we checked. Rather than convert an Australian price, we’re leaving that cell open. (ZA-served version of this page only.)
CA note
We haven’t published a Canadian competitor price. Two reasons, and we’d rather say both. The retailers we checked don’t make their prices readable without a store selected, and it’s late August — the Canadian pool season is closing, so whatever is still listed is a clearance price, not what the same pool costs in June. We’ll collect these figures at the start of the Canadian season and date them like the others. Converting an Australian price would have been quicker and would have been made up.
You’ve probably already trusted this construction
Drop-stitch isn’t new. It’s the same construction inside the inflatable paddleboard on the beach — and inside the cold plunge tubs recovery brands like Ritual Recovery already sell across Australia. Their drop-stitch model starts at $1,090 AUD, right in the same range as a Hippool pool.
Why Hippool costs more than a steel-frame pool — and less than importing one yourself
The price follows the construction, not the marketing. A steel-frame pool costs less because a tube frame and liner are cheap to make — and because that frame is the part that fails first. Importing the same construction from overseas costs more for reasons that have nothing to do with the pool: “no local drop-stitch brand — alternatives ship from US/Europe at import prices” — international freight, then whatever duty or tax is charged at the border, on top of whatever the seller asks. Hippool sits between the two by design — the same rigid drop-stitch construction, bought locally, without the shipping leg and the border paperwork; more than a steel-frame up front, because there’s no frame left to rust by season three.
What happens off-season
Where winters don’t bring hard frost, the old “winterising” question barely applies. Where they do — most of Canada included — take it down before the first freeze: ice is what splits a pool wall. Either way, what matters is the same: leave a Hippool up and there’s no steel frame to rust; pack it away and it folds flat in minutes, with no frame to seize or corrode in storage.
This comparison covers portable above-ground pools only — not in-ground or semi-permanent installations. Prices are a snapshot, checked on the dates shown, and can change. And whichever category you choose: in most places, any pool 300 mm or deeper — which is every option on this page except shallow inflatable toy pools — triggers fencing or barrier requirements. If you’ve had a steel-frame pool rust or a cheap inflatable sag within a season, yes — a drop-stitch pool’s rigid, high-pressure walls solve exactly that problem, and there’s no frame left to corrode. Is there a Bestway pool alternative that doesn’t rust?
